Google Voice inconsistent results for dialing out

I am having problems with outbound dialing consistency. Seems that if I have any new gv voicemails, I need to have MagiCall send "*" to get to the menu before sending "2" to dial a number. But if there are no new gv voicemails, then "*" is not required. The number of pauses required for both scenarios is also different. 

How are people getting around this??

We are not familiar with Google Voice. Hope other members on this forum can help you.

My old GV rule only works with "Change dialed number (v2)". I haven't tried it when I have a voice mail yet but will let you know when I do. 


My current rule is:

Action1: Change dialed number (v2)
Call to: +1nnnnnnnnnn,xxxx,2,,{phone}[0,10]#
Action2: Do nothing   

Where nnnnnnnnnn is my GV number and xxxx is my passcode.
