I understand that SMSes from specific number can be forwarded based on the rule.

However, I am interested if the SMSes can be forwarded if we don't know the number of the sender, but only name. This is the case with some SMS distribution lists that are using provider's gateway rather than phone number. For example, I am receiving SMSes from XXXX, but I can't see the number. Can I set up auto-forwarding from XXXX just by putting sender's name as XXX?

No, if the SMS does not have a phone number, you can't reply SMS to them.

I meant forwarding not replying.

In fact, forwarding works even if the sender's number doesn't show up.
I downloaded the program to try it, it works, I am buying it!!

@VP - Can you give an example of the rule you used?  Thanks.

Well, I understand what he means - for example he gets an SMS sent by a service, like HOROSCOPE, which come signed only as HOROSCOPE, no number identified. So he wants to set up a rule which will forward these messages to others based on a name, not number (which the service doesn´t identify). His question is whether a rule could use a name, not a number.

This also has an interesting application. For example, I have 6 different numbers stored for user "Joe Buck", and I want to block him. It would be good to be able just to block "Joe Buck" and not each number individually (provided that all of them are stored in the contacts).

@telleuno

(1) I am wondering what rule @VP wrote to get the sms forwarding to work.  For example, does the rule  use [Filter Type: Sender Name: XXXX]  or does the rule use a particular word in the [SMS Filter: XXXX] to forward the message.  Just curious what was used.

(2) In terms of your "Joe Buck" example; try this - Set up an outlook category called, for example,  Blocklist and then add "Joe Buck" to that category.  Then set up a rule like:

Rule Name: Blocked Numbers
Rule Type: Incoming Call
Filter Type: Outlook Category
Category: Blocklist
Enabled: Always
Action1: Hang Up
Action2: Do Nothing.

This will now block all calls from the numbers under the contact name Joe Buck.  Say later on you want to also block calls from the contact "Jane Doe", then simply add Blocklist category to your Jane Doe contact and this will block all numbers under the Jane Doe contact..

Hope this helps.

to all:

telleuno was right, I simply put a name of the sender instead of the phone number. But, telluno's example on Joe Buck does not apply in my case. I actually do not have the name of the sender in my address book. When I receive SMS, the sender name appears INSTEAD of the number. Why? Because it the SMS is not sent by some individual who is sending me messages, but a service that uses SMS gateway.

Rule itself is simple:

FILTER
Rule Name: XXX
Rule Type: SMS
Filter Type: Sender Name
Name List: XXX
SMS Filter:
Enabled: Always

OPERATION
Action 1: pass on to next rule
Action 2: send SMS
To: XXX
Message: {message}

That's it. Let me know if there is something else that you want to know.
