I saw reference on this forum to remapping the shift key on a Treo Pro because it's different than the 750. Also, I've had trouble with the D-pad function because it seems to get locked into an on position. I can't get out of the function where it's multi-selecting.

Can someone elaborate on how to remap a shift key, and what the purpose of that is? Also, will that help the D-Pad function, since it's dependent on the shift key?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Have you played with FieldPlus for Palm OS? The "Optimize after cut and copy" option is pretty slick and would be a nice addition to MagiKBLite.

To define Shift key, select [Menu]>[Edit Key-Mapping], move focus to [Shift key] box, select [Menu]>[Get Key Code], press the Shift key, and select certain key code.

I have used FieldPlus, but I didn't use that "optimize cut/copy" feature. How does it work?

Shift-highlight the text, press center button to get action menu. Cut/copy. Navigate somewhere. Press center button without pressing shift. FieldPlus remembers that it's in a cut/copy state and pops up the menu again. This time it's on paste, since it knows the last action was cut/copy. After paste, press center again, nothing happens.

Sometimes the smart action doesn't exactly match what you want, but usually it's helpful.

My problem is getting the extended-select function to turn off. If I press shift-down, it selects the entire line from the cursor to immediately below it. But I get stuck in select mode and can't get it turned off. If I don't want to cut/copy/paste, how do I cancel selection? In FieldPlus, the shift key was a simple on/off toggle, and worked well.

Thanks

Once you release the shift key, the selection mode is turned off. However on Treo, there is some delay by the system. The shift key is still in down state for a little while after you release the key.

That may be the problem. I'll experiment.

Other issues:

1. When activated, numeric keys pressed on the phone dialer are duplicated, especially the initial one. I tried to exclude that program but found no program named obviously enough for me to recognize it.

2. I'd like to emulate the 'x' for exiting a program. I have my OK button set to <ok/close> in settings> buttons, but that doesn't actually exit the program, it merely closes the window. I'd like to map Option+OK to exit. Unfortunately I can't trap the key because, by pressing it, it exists MagiKBLite.   Undecided  Can you suggest a way to accomplish that keymap?

Is there a possibility of your making double-click shift key the on/off trigger, as an option? That would make turning this on and off more explicit.

There is no keycode for <OK/Close> button. Indeed when you press the hardware <OK/Close> key provided on Treo, there are two keycodes being sent in order. We cannot simulate this type of key events yet.

When you press Option+OK, the Treo keyboard driver exit the foreground program, there is no key events sent to the system.

At present, no. OEMs implement their devices in different ways. We have no good solution to deal with it.
