I like magicall very much, esp the calling card function.

But so far I didn't find a quick way to block a caller. I setup a rule to block some numbers, and it works well. But adding a number to that rule takes too much steps. FORD calls me almost everyday to sale their extended warranty, using different phone numbers (different area codes too), and I am so annoyed. I hope magicall can have a button to let me add the number to blacklist once an unknown number come in. I also hope in the call log, once an entry is click and hold, there will be a shortcut to add to blacklist.

Magicall is powerful, but it is too complicated to use. As an advanced user, I lost my magicall settings a few month ago, and I have to setup new rules by looking up the information again either from help menu or from this forum, and this is so inconvenient.   I suggest Magicall should have some predefined rules such as calling card, blocklist or phone profiles, so that people can just edit it quickly. A calling card or blocklist wizard will be even better.

Anyway, good job.

Good suggestion. I will consider it in future versions. Thanks.

i second to the suggestion to have a shortcut to add the call number to blacklist. And, can Magicall own the blacklist itself? I don't want to see those blacklisted contacts in my contact list.

As an interim measure, I set up a contact in my phone book call Block and add it to a category called Junk. Then in Magicall I set up a rule to hangup all calls from the Junk category. Then when a call comes on that I want to block, I just add it to my contact called Block right from the call window. This makes it a little easier to add junk callers. If you get a lot of junk calls then it may require adding Block01, Block02, etc to your contact list and linking each to the Junk category.  Not the best solution compared to suggestion of an in-built block list in MC but this does ease up things for me.

I had this problem as well and I was able to configure MagicCall to handle it this way.

1. Create a filter that allows only your contacts to get through.  Make this the top filter in the list.
2. Create a filter that will accept calls only from area codes that you specify. (123*; 321*; 456*, etc)
3. Create a filter that ignores or hangs up on all callers that do not pass the first 2 filters.

MagicCall processes the first filter and checks to see if the incoming phone number is in my Contact List.  If it isn't, it then it checks to see if the incoming number matches any of the specified zip codes in the 2nd filter.  If the number doesn't match any of the zip codes, the call is then hung up. This seems to work OK for me, although if you want to accept calls from many different zip codes and they aren't in your contact list, it may be a pain to set up.  Do a search in this forum for how to create a whitelist and blacklist for more detailed info on how to help you get your filters properly setup.

Suggestions

Users Of:
I have done a few hard resets and always always have my magiccall settings back on my new phone.

The trick is to have a backup of My Documents\Magicall  from your phone.

i have a backup program i made that backs up your entire my docs folder onto your storage card

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=582421

Makers Of:
An idea i have is a wizard of sorts..

You would select new
It could then ask you
Rule Name
type it in
Type
and so on..  basically asking the user each question and auto creating the rules on the fly.
Do you wish to filter an area code
Do you wish to forward this message
do you wish to hang up the phone if this number calls
If this number send you an SMS, what action would you like to do
Or you could do something like.
If this happends, then do this
or if this happends and this happends then do this
Just a thought

This way people do not need to know keyword phrases or anything, they simply answer the questions.

Pick your rule type
Code:
*SMS
Incoming Call
Calling Card
Outgoing Call
Email
What do you wish to do
Code:
BLOCK
*REPLY
FORWARD
Do you wish to add an additional action
Code:
*Yes
No
What would you like to do?
Code:
Reply
Delete
*Forward
Enter the phrase you wish to reply with
MagicCall Rocks
Enter the number you wish to forward the original message to:
5551212

Rule Created!!

I am sorry we won't add this function. We are already able to add numbers from call logs by using [Menu]>[Select Call Logs] from the rule configuration window.

Adding numbers from call logs directly isn't faster or easier than the above way because users have to select which rule to add.
