I have a rule called "Unknown - SMS" which mutes incoming SMS from anyone not in my Contacts. Sounds simple enough:

Rule Type: SMS
Filter Type: Unknown Number

Action 1: Mute
Action 2: Do nothing

This works as expected when the SMS is coming from another mobile device. But when someone sends an SMS via e-mail (1234567890@vtext.com, for example), it still mutes the incoming message even if their e-mail is in my contacts list.

Can "Unknown Number" be set to check against contacts' e-mail addresses? Or is there a better way to allow SMS from a known e-mail sender to take the default action, while still muting SMS from unknown senders?

Thanks in advance.

Also, I believe I read a request to have the log show the rule that triggered the log entry... I could really use that feature.

Does Windows Mobile recognize the email address as a known contact? Can you see the contact's full name as well as the email address in the SMS?
You may use "Sender Name" option to bypass this type of SMS, just create a rule like the following and move it above other rules for blocking.

Rule type: SMS
Filter type: Sender Name
Name list: 1234567890@vtext.com
Action1: System Default

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The 1234567890@vtext.com address is my cell phone as a recipient, this is not the sender. With Verizon Wireless, you can send SMS via email (SMTP) by using the TO field of "mobile number"@vtext.com

To test this, I sent an email from my email account that I have listed in my Contact record (anyname@yahoo.com) to my cell phone (1234567890@vtext.com). Windows Mobile does recognize my email address as the sender (and correctly matches it up to me in Contacts).

My thought is that MagiCall, when looking at the Sender of an SMS, is only looking at the phone number. If it expanded the Sender field to look at my Contacts' email addresses it would know that these SMS's are from someone in my Contacts list.

I hope this makes more sense, sorry for the confusion.

Thank you. I am going to add this feature. But my mobile service provider doesn't provide this service, I cannot test it by myself. Can you help me?

I have one question. Can you reply SMS to the sender? For example, when you receive an SMS sent from anyname@yahoo.com, can you select the "Reply" button? If so, what is filled in the destination field on the composing form?

Yes, I'm more than happy to test.

When you open the SMS and choose to reply, it fills in the original sender's e-mail address (anyname@yahoo.com). I actually thought it would switch to my e-mail account to send, but it didn't (it sent through SMS, with the message ending up in my SMS "Sent Items" folder). I then received the message on my desktop in my e-mail account, with the sender of "1234567890@vtext.com".

Thanks for your help with this, let me know if you'd like screen shots from my PDA or PC...

Thank you. I'd like some screen shots. I will try to give you v2.2 beta in two days.

Hi RockLobster, I've sent you a personal message containing a link to download v2.2 debug version.

After installing the debug version, every time you receive a SMS, MagiCall will pop up a dialog containing sender name and email address.

Please send me the information displayed on that dialog when receiving a SMS sent from email of your contacts.

Please soft reset your device after you remove the debug version. Thanks.

As you said, I now receive the following window when an SMS comes in:

SMS Received   <OK>
Sender Name: myemail@yahoo.com
Email: myemail@yahoo.com

My rule still sees this as an unknown sender (as expected, I believe).

Let me know if you'd rather see screen shots, I can get those if they would be helpful.

Sure, I would like some screen shots. Thanks.

But from the info MagiCall received, Windows Mobile did not recognize it as a known contact. Because SMS from a known contact should be in this format:

Sender Name: Sender's Name
Email: Sender's Name <senderemail@yahoo.com>
