Is it possible to block an entire area code? For example, I get lots of telemarketing calls and I want to block all calls within the 888, 877, 800, 866 and 858 area codes.

Hi revdubya,
Use a rule like this:
Rule type: Phone-Inbound Filter type: Specific number Phone #: 888*; 877*; 800*; 866*; 858* Action1: Hang up
If the incoming caller id also has a country code with it, for example +1, then change the specific number to: +1888*; +1877*; +1800*...
Hope it works for you. Regards.

I tried adding all area codes in one string like you suggested and also individually, and it did not work. My rule is set up like this:
Rule type: Phone-Inbound Filter type: Specific number Phone #: +1800* Action1: Pickup/Hangup
I have MagiCall configured to ignore all calls from those not in my contacts. The calls from the blocked area code are being ignored and not being dealt with using the action specified in the rule.
Do you have any other suggestions?

What number was shown when you received the call? For example, did you see +1888xxxxxxx, 888xxxxxxx or +888xxxxxxx ?
I think you may try the rule below:
Rule type: Phone-Inbound Filter type: Specific number Phone #: *(800)???-????; *(877)???-???? Action1: Pickup/Hangup

The number shown is +1866xxxxxxx.
Should I enter the rule using literal question marks, or should I replace those question marks with the digits of the phone number? If I have to block each number seperately, that's going to defeat the purpose of blocking the area code.

Use the question marks in the rule. Each question mark represents a digital number. For example, if you write 7 question marks in the Phone# field like this ???-????, every incoming call with the caller id having just 7 digits will be filtered. So if the caller id is 1234567, it will be filtered. But if the id is 123456 or 12345678, then it will NOT be filtered.

My carrier does not format my Caller ID with parentheses so do I have to include those in the rule or not?

Never mind. Parentheses are not valid number, they will be ignored by MagiCall. We can use them to separate numbers, so that the numbers are more clear to read.

It still isn't working. Calls from the blocked area codes are still coming through.

Can you send the files named "settings.dat" and "logs.dat" under folder "\My Documents\MagiCall" to our support email: support@mobiion.com ? We will give you some advice about the settings. Thanks.
